Thread and Shank Diameters

The thread rolling process raises the surface of the rod so that thread diameter (B) is greater than shank diameter (A). These copper bond earth rods are made by molecularly bonding 99.9% pure electrolytic copper on to a low carbon steel core, offering an economical and high-quality solution.

  • Copper thickness standard: 250 microns (Custom thickness available upon request).
  • Compliant with BS EN 50164-2, BS7430, and UL467.
  • Fittings compliant with BS EN 50164-1.

Application Notes:

Solid Copper: Ideal for aggressive soil conditions (e.g., high salt content) due to superior corrosion resistance.

Stainless Steel: Used to overcome galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals. Highly resistant and durable.

Kits: Include 2×1200mm rods, coupling dowel, driving stud, and spike to make an 8 ft rod.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What is the advantage of molecularly bonding copper to the steel core?
Molecular bonding ensures that the copper layer will not slip or crack when the rod is driven into the ground, providing long-lasting corrosion protection and consistent electrical conductivity.
Which soil conditions require solid copper earth rods?
Solid copper rods are recommended for highly aggressive environments, such as coastal areas with high salt content or soils with high chemical acidity, where standard rods might corrode faster.
What standards do your earth rods comply with?
Our products are manufactured to meet international standards including BS EN 50164-2, BS7430, and UL467, ensuring safety and reliability in grounding systems.
Why is the thread diameter larger than the shank diameter on threaded rods?
This is a result of the thread rolling process, which strengthens the threads and ensures they are robust enough to maintain a secure connection during installation and throughout the system's lifespan.
Are custom copper plating thicknesses available?
Yes, while our standard copper thickness is 250 microns, we can provide alternative plating thicknesses based on specific project requirements and technical specifications.
What is included in the earth rod kits?
The kits typically include two 1200mm rods, a coupling dowel, a driving stud, and a spike, allowing for the easy assembly of an 8 ft grounding rod on-site.
